Wei Kao is Associate Director of the UCLA Engineering Institute for Technology Advancement. Prior to joining UCLA in 2008, he was Director of the Materials Science Department at The Aerospace Corporation. He has more than 35 years experience in the research and development, having directed technology programs sponsored by the National Aerospace and Space Administration, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, the U.S Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the California Department of Transportation, as well as by the U.S. Army and Navy. He has served on the Industrial Technical Advisory Board for the UCLA Material Science and Engineering Department and the Materials Technical Committee of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics where he is also an Associate Fellow. He has also served as the Chairman and President of the Chinese-American Engineers and Scientist Association of Southern California. He received his B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from Taiwan National Cheng-Kung University, M.S. in Materials Science from University of Notre Dame, and Ph.D. in Metallurgy and Materials Science from Michigan State University.
