Maxim Batalin is Associate Director for the UCLA Engineering Institute for Technology Advancement. Prior to joining UCLA in 2005, he led multiple technology development programs funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Aerospace and Space Administration, the National Institute of Heath, as well as other national and commercial agencies. He has served as a reviewer for a variety of grants and journal publications. His current focus is in the area of Intelligent Systems with specific emphasis on social media, security, information systems, sensor networking, biomedical systems, robotics and automation, embedded systems, and infrastructure design. He received his B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Oregon, M.S. in Management from Tavriya National University (Ukraine), and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California.
